Transform 19 is a festival of powerful, international performance. Igniting the city with trailblazing theatre, dance, parties and adventure, the festival assembles some of the boldest artists from across Leeds and the globe. Transform 19 travels through some of the city’s most iconic venues and hidden spaces, pushing boundaries and borders.
Transform’s boldest and bravest festival yet features artists from across five continents, four world premieres, takeovers by young people from across the city and special events. Venues include Leeds Playhouse, Yorkshire Dance, Riley Theatre, secret locations and an ambitious television studio takeover with a new Festival Centre at Prime Studios.
Highlights include; When It Breaks It Burns by coletivA ocupação (Brazil) which uses dance, live music and performance to reveal the brutal intensity of living inside a political movement; An Atypical Brain Damage by Tianzhuo Chen (China) is an immersive spectacle that is part club, part performance, part culture clash. World premieres by brilliant locally based artists include Idol by Jamal Gerald, a daring and unapologetic examination of religion, pop culture and Black representation; and bYOB by 70/30 Split, which reflects on masculinity, bravado and belonging.
