Thanks for celebrating with us!

Our bid to become European Capital of Culture in 2023

Leeds 2023 Big Send Off

From 12-8pm

Friday 27th October 2017

Quarry Hill, near the West Yorkshire Playhouse

On the 27th October Leeds will submitted its first stage bid to become European Capital of Culture 2023, and we certainly celebrated in style.

Not only did we celebrate the hard work, collaboration, creativity and passion that has created the bid, but we sand, danced, ate and were merry with some of the people creating our culture every day. Thank you to everyone who celebrated with us at the Big Send Off (all 4,000 of you!) and to all of our performers, artists and traders who it made it such a fantastic celebration of our bid and our city.

See if you can spot yourself in the crowds in Facebook gallery.

“It’s our intention to ensure that this is a bid that belongs to the people of Leeds and which properly communicates how vibrant and diverse our different communities and cultural institutions are.”
