An open letter to the Culture Secretary from black, asian & ethnically diverse theatre artistic directors and cultural leaders

Covid 19 is having a devastating impact on the lives and livelihoods of many people in our communities.

The arts sector  is no stranger to this devastation. Over these last few weeks I have participated in many conversations with artists and organisations within Leeds and beyond as we all try to deal with the challenges both immediate and in the longer term.

Here in Leeds and the wider region we have a wealth of diverse creative talent working across the different art-forms from the performing arts to the visual arts, within the digital world and embedded in our communities.  The arts ecology is rich with talent but is fragile and as we look ahead we must ensure that the gains made over the years, particularly around diversity and representation are not lost.

That is why I have signed this open letter to the Culture Secretary.
